Among the most popular insect repellents are ones that contain DEET, which is safe for people and pets when used as directed. Permethrin, which is non-toxic and odorless, can also be applied to clothing. It will stay on your skin for longer. The right repellent can protect you from the insects that may be a threat to your health while you are hunting, and also prevent you from getting any diseases.

Charger

If you're planning to be away for long periods of your hunt, it's worth having a portable charging station. They can help charge your phone, tablets, Nintendo Switch consoles and other electronics on the go.

The best portable chargers can be used to charge your device up to five times before you need it to be connected to an outlet. They also come with multiple input and output ports, so you can charge more than one device at a time.

These chargers range in size and capacity, so it's important to consider your needs and the type of devices you want to charge when choosing the right portable charger for your hunting trip. For example, if you're a whitetail hunter who's going to be sitting in the woods all day, a smaller portable charger with less power might be better for you.

For those who spend their time out on the water, such as kayakers and fisherman, a solar powered charger might be more appropriate. The right charger for your electronics will make hunting easier and more enjoyable.

What is your most valuable survival tool in case you get lost?

The compass is a tool that tells us where north is. The compass also shows how far you have traveled from your starting point. The compass might not always be able to show you the right direction if you are traveling in a place with mountains. The compass can usually tell you where you are if you are on a flat surface.

A compass is not necessary if you do not have one. You can use an object like a rock, tree or other solid for guidance. Although you would still need to locate a landmark to guide yourself, at least you would know where north is.

What is the difference of a folding and fixed-blade knife, you ask?

Folding knives fold down compactly so that they can fit into a bag or pocket. The blade folds away when not in use.

Fixed-blade knives are made to be used in normal usage. They have longer blades than those of folding knives.

Fixed-blade knives have a greater durability, but are also more portable.

How can I select the right knife to fit my needs?

It is not easy to choose the right knife for you. There are so many companies that claim to have the best knives.

Which one is the best? How do they compare?

Consider first what tasks you are going to be performing with your knife.

Do you want to chop wood, skin animals, slice bread or chop vegetables?

Is it for fishing or hunting? Is your knife meant for camping cooking or kitchen cutting

Do you intend to use it for opening bottles and cans? Do you intend to open packages and boxes?

Is your knife strong enough to handle heavy loads?

Consider cleaning it after each use. Do you plan to wash it frequently?

Do they need to maintain their edge for a long time?

What is the importance of basic survival skills?

Survival skills are essential for survival. They include the ability to build shelter, protect yourself from danger, and hunt, fish, as well as how to catch food. These skills are critical no matter where one lives, but they are especially important when travelling alone or in remote regions.

Other survival skills include navigation, self-defense and wilderness medicine. They are essential life-saving tools that should always be available before venturing into unknown territory.

You may also need to have other skills in order to be useful away from your home. For example, if you plan on spending your vacation hiking through the mountains, learn some mountaineering techniques if you plan to go camping in the desert, learn how to survive in extreme temperatures. There are many options to prepare for any scenario, so don’t hesitate to explore new possibilities and learn new skills.

How to Navigate Without a Compass or With One

A compass is not able to tell you where your destination is, but it can help guide you back home if necessary.

There are three options for navigation:

  1. By landmarks
  2. By magnetic North (using an compass).
  3. By stars

Landmarks can be objects you recognize as soon as you see them. They include trees, buildings, rivers, etc. Landmarks are useful because they provide a visual clue to where you are.

Magnetic North simply indicates the direction in which Earth's magnetic field points. The sun appears to be moving across sky if you look up. The earth's magnetic field actually causes sun to move around. Although it appears that the sun is moving across the sky and around the horizon, it actually does so. The sun is overhead at noon. At midnight, the sun is directly below you. The earth's magnetic field is constantly changing, so the exact direction of the magnetic North pole changes every day. This means that sometimes you may be off course for quite a while.

Another method of navigation is to use stars. Stars appear over the horizon to rise and lower. These are fixed points that can be used to pinpoint your location relative other locations.
