How To

How to preserve food in a survival scenario

To preserve food in an emergency situation, drying is the best option. Drying food helps preserve them for longer. It also decreases the risk of bacteria growth.

Dried fruits can be used as snacks in emergencies and don't require cooking. They are portable and can be taken with you wherever you go.

While you can dry fruit at your home using a dehydrator and a sun oven, it's much more convenient to do so in a commercial setting. To dry any type of food, you could use a sun oven, such as meats, fish, vegetables and grains.

The most important thing when preserving food is to ensure it is airtight. This prevents oxygen from entering the container and spoiling the food. If you seal the container tightly enough, there won't be any need to add preservatives.

If you do decide to add preservatives, try adding salt first. Salt is a good way to prevent mold growth. Then, follow that with vinegar. Vinegar is a good way to kill harmful bacteria and stop mold growth.

First, cut the food into small pieces. Either a pair of scissors or a sharp knife are acceptable. Make sure you pack everything well so that no air gets inside the container.

Next, place the food inside a plastic bag. Cover the bag with plastic and let it dry somewhere warm.

After the food is dried, seal it in a container. Take care not to let any food touch it.
