How To

How to keep food alive in a survival situation

Drying food is the best way to preserve it in an emergency situation. Drying food preserves it from moisture, making them last longer. It also reduces the possibility of bacteria growth.

Dried fruits are great for snacking on during an emergency because they don't require any preparation. You can take them with you and eat as many as you wish without worrying about weight gain.

It is possible to dry fruit at-home using a drying rack, but a solar oven would be more practical. To dry any type of food, you could use a sun oven, such as meats, fish, vegetables and grains.

Food preservation is best done by making sure it is airtight. This prevents oxygen entering the container and spoiling it. You don't need to use preservatives if the container is sealed tightly enough.

If you do decide to add preservatives, try adding salt first. Salt helps prevent mold growth. Then follow this with vinegar. Vinegar kills harmful bacteria and prevents mold growth.

You will need to first cut your food into small pieces. You can use a kitchen knife or scissors. Pack everything carefully so there is no air in the container

Next, place the food inside a plastic bag. Seal the bag and leave it somewhere warm until it dries completely.

Once food has dried completely, it can be stored in a sealed container. You must be careful not to allow anything to touch the food.
