Are Doomsday Preppers Crazy?

survivalists guide

It may be a surprise to you that "doomsday preppers" can actually be true. While most of them aren't, there is a small number who go overboard with their prepping. We'll look at their beliefs in this article and what preparations they made.

Preparers for the Doomsday

Although many may believe Doomsday preppers are crazy, others believe the opposite. There are many reasons this belief exists. People fear, among other things, the collapse or repercussions of world government. Others are worried about war and terrorism. Some are just trying to protect their lifestyles. Regardless of why they are preparing, it is important to have a place to go when disaster strikes.

In one recent doomsday prepper's story, seven people were rescued from a bunker. The rest were left inside the shelter. Despite the roof falling, there were more than twenty-six people still living in the shelter. It is not yet known what caused the collapse of the bunker, but it was apparently not a natural disaster.

Their beliefs

Some people believe in a Doomsday scenario. These individuals, known as preppers, have become notorious for their extreme beliefs. Many believe in zombie apocalypse. However, some believe in other scenarios like the end of civilization and natural disasters. Many believe that war and famine are possible. They are also concerned about economic crashes, extended power cuts, and other untoward events.

Doomsday preppers are typically white, rural Americans who are extremely distrustful of government. They also tend to be Christian. Although their beliefs and practices may be similar, they have different preparation methods. Craig Wiles is a Seventh-day Adventist minister who also prepper. He says that there are three types: Christian-preppers, homesteaders, survivalists.

Their preparations

While some people might think doomsday planners are crazy, it is not always true. While some people may have irrational fears about the end of the world, the vast majority of preppers plan for a significant reset. Most of the prepper TV shows only focus on a few people who are too serious about their prepping.

In the first season of Doomsday Preppers, a woman was seen stockpiling supplies for a pandemic. She was eventually told that such an epidemic is unlikely. She was also criticized for hoarding supplies that led to shortages. Others were also criticized for not listening to their friends' advice and being selfish.

Their bunker

Doomsday preppers and their bunkers represent a completely different breed. The original survivalists built their homes outside, but the modern doomsday preppers have taken up the idea of building a subterranean shelter. They created a community where they can share knowledge and resources to help them survive and rebuild after a crisis.

There has been a surge in demand for contractors to build these homes and bunkers since the coronavirus pandemic. However, they aren’t always available as the construction process takes several months.

How to Navigate Without a Compass, or with it?

Although a compass does not tell you where you're going, it can help you get back to your home in case you lose your bearings.

Three different ways you can navigate are available:

  1. By landmarks
  2. By magnetic North (using the compass)
  3. By stars

Landmarks are objects that you can recognize when they appear. They can include buildings, trees, rivers, and others. They are useful as they can be used to show you where you are.

Magnetic North simply refers to the direction that the Earth's magnet field points. You'll see that the sun appears as if it is moving across the sky when you look up. However, the earth's magnetic field actually causes the sun to move around the earth. The sun appears to move across the sky but it actually moves around the horizon. At noon, the sun is directly overhead. The sun is directly beneath you at midnight. The magnetic field of the earth is constantly changing. This means that the exact direction and orientation of the North pole magnetically changes each day. This means that sometimes you may be off course for quite a while.

Another method of navigating is using stars. Stars rise and set above the horizon. These are fixed points in time that you can use for determining your location relative others.
